Department: Human Resources
Location: Irvine, CA

Technical Documentation & AI Intern

Pay: $20.00/hr
Hours: 20-29 hrs/week, 8am-5pm PDT
Location: Onsite only - Irvine, CA
Duration: Late May/Early June through Late August/Mid-September

About the Role
Origence is modernizing how its software engineering organization creates, organizes, and publishes technical documentation. We are looking for an intern who can help us move from scattered content spread across Confluence, SharePoint, and Azure DevOps wikis toward a coherent, standardized, and AI-augmented documentation ecosystem.

This is a hands-on technical role. You won't just be organizing files - you'll be evaluating tooling, proposing information architecture, helping define documentation standards, and experimenting with AI-assisted doc generation workflows.

What You'll Work On

Documentation Audit & Information Architecture

  • Inventory existing documentation across Confluence, SharePoint, and Azure DevOps wikis
  • Identify gaps, redundancies, and structural problems
  • Propose a unified information architecture for engineering documentation

Standards & Process Development

  • Draft documentation standards for engineering processes, architectural decision records (ADRs), cloud infrastructure standards, and product architecture diagrams
  • Define templates and publishing workflows for engineering teams to adopt

AI-Augmented Documentation

  • Explore how AI tools (including LLMs) can assist in creating, maintaining, and surfacing documentation
  • Help prototype AI-assisted workflows for generating and updating technical content from existing artifacts such as code, wikis, and diagrams

Tooling & Integration

  • Work within Git-based workflows; documentation-as-code concepts are a plus
  • Help evaluate whether current tools are the right fit or whether consolidation makes sense

What We're Looking For

Education
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

Required

  • Hands-on experience writing or maintaining code - coursework projects count
  • Familiarity with Git (branching, commits, pull requests)
  • Ability to read and understand technical content: architecture diagrams, API docs, and infrastructure specs
  • Strong written communication skills - you'll be producing content that engineers will actually use

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Confluence, SharePoint, or Azure DevOps
  • Exposure to diagramming tools such as Lucidchart, draw.io, Mermaid, or the C4 model
  • Interest in AI and LLM tooling and prompt engineering
  • Experience with docs-as-code approaches (Markdown, static site generators, etc.)

Requirements

  • Must be available to work a consistent schedule of 20-29 hours/week during the hours of 8am-5pm PDT
  • Must be able to come onsite to Irvine, CA

Video Cover Letter
To be considered, submit a short 1-minute video cover letter along with your resume. In your video please address:

  • Tell us a little about yourself
  • Why are you interested in this role and what draws you to technical documentation and AI?
  • What makes you the best candidate for this internship at Origence?

We understand that recording a video can feel intimidating - take a deep breath, be genuine, and share your story in your own words.
